The Best Wellness Experiences on the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has quietly become one of the UK's most compelling wellness destinations in recent years. A growing community of practitioners, retreats, therapists and studios has taken root here, inspired by the Island's exceptional natural landscape and its spirit of independent creativity. From yoga on the beach to ancient forest bathing rituals, from deep-tissue spa treatments using botanicals grown on the Island itself, to sound baths in centuries-old stone venues, here is your guide to some of our favourite wellness experiences on the Isle of Wight…

Yoga: On Beaches, in Barns and on the Water

Yoga on the Isle of Wight goes far beyond studio classes. The Island's practitioners have made the most of their extraordinary surroundings, bringing their teaching outdoors and into some of the most atmospheric spaces imaginable.

Balance + Glo, founded by Jenny Stewart and Evelyn Joyce, both of whom left corporate careers for Island life and never looked back, has become one of the Island's most beloved wellness communities. Their programme includes sell-out beach yoga sessions, a weekly morning class at The Albion in Freshwater, and one of the most distinctive offerings anywhere in the UK: SUP Yoga. Paddling out onto the River Yar at Yarmouth or into Freshwater Bay, participants practise yoga on stand-up paddleboards surrounded by nature, with qualified lifeguards and paddle instructors on hand and the Island's coastline unfolding around them.

Yoga with Erling, based in the Island's countryside, offers Scaravelli-inspired yoga in what the studio describes as its yoga home - a setting designed to let practice grow and evolve alongside participants over time. The studio runs immersive retreat weekends throughout the year, including seasonal equinox retreats where breath, stillness and movement are interwoven with the natural rhythms of the Island.

For a dedicated yoga and wellness retreat weekend, Godshill Park Farm, an 18th-century farmhouse in the heart of the Island, plays host to guided retreats run by visiting teachers throughout the year. The combination of the farmhouse setting, the rolling countryside of Godshill, and focused daily practice makes for a genuinely restorative experience.

Sound Baths: Immersive Healing in Extraordinary Settings

Sound bathing has found a particularly resonant home on the Isle of Wight. Local practitioners offer regular sessions across the Island, using gongs, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, chimes and voice to guide participants into deep states of rest and restoration.

Echome Therapy's sound bath sessions bring together the healing properties of layered sound with the Island's unique atmosphere, offering indoor and outdoor experiences including forest sound baths with immersive sessions held among the Island's ancient trees where, as the practitioner describes it, "you step out of daily life and into something elemental."

At Quay Arts in Newport, the Emerald Energy Gong and Sound Bath events make use of the venue's striking theatre space for full-group sound immersions using gongs, crystal and Tibetan bowls, drums, chimes and rainstick. Participants lie in comfortable positions, guided through layers of sound and frequency that build towards deep relaxation. Regular sessions are listed on the Visit Isle of Wight events calendar.

Forest Bathing: Into the Ancient Woods

The Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, forest bathing, or the therapeutic immersion in woodland, has found a natural home on an island covered in some of England's most beautiful ancient forests. Studies have consistently shown the health benefits of time spent mindfully among trees: reduced cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, improved mood and immune function.

Forest Bathing Isle of Wight, led by specialist facilitator Anthea Payne, offers bespoke small group and one-to-one sessions in the Island's most peaceful woodland settings. These are not simply walks in the woods: each session blends mindful movement, guided meditation, sound healing, creativity exercises and the practice of intentional stillness. The experience is tailored to individual goals and needs, and for every session booked, one tree is planted through TreeSisters.org.

The Island's finest forest bathing settings include Firestone Copse near Wootton, a beautifully peaceful wood with paths winding down to an old mill pond and Wootton Creek and the ancient broadleaved woods of the south of the Island. In spring, bluebells and birdsong transform these forests into something quietly extraordinary.

Camp Wight combines forest bathing with sound healing, offering sessions accompanied by Tibetan singing bowls to deepen the meditative, grounding quality of time spent among trees.

Spa Days: Rest, Restore, Revive

For a more traditional wellness day, the Isle of Wight offers a handful of excellent spa options that make the most of the Island's distinct sense of escape.

Lakeside Park Hotel and Spa at Wootton Bridge is the Island's most complete spa hotel, set in a peaceful position overlooking Wootton Creek near the Fishbourne ferry. Spa day packages include full body massage, mini facials, use of the swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna, and a food allowance for lunch in the hotel's brasserie, plus a glass of prosecco. Treatments range from manicures and pedicures to deep tissue massage and luxury facial packages.

Bembridge Coast, a Warner Hotels property, offers a well-equipped spa and wellness experience from a prime seafront location,  including results-driven facials, problem-solving massages, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym, with the added novelty of archery and bowls on the grounds for a complete day away.

Breathwork and Meditation

The Isle of Wight's wellness community has embraced breathwork as a core practice, with classes and workshops offered by practitioners across the Island throughout the year. Yoga with Emma incorporates structured breathwork, including box breathing, extended breathing and alternate nostril breathing into her fitness offering, while standalone breathwork workshops and sound-combined breathwork evenings appear regularly on the Island's events calendar.

The Newtown National Nature Reserve, managed by the National Trust, also offers guided wellbeing walks designed around mindfulness, sensory presence and intentional breathing, offering a gentle, accessible introduction to the principles of breathwork and meditation set within one of the Island's most serene natural environments.
