Whether you're heading to a destination or simply looking for a picturesque ride, our must-do bus routes are the perfect way to experience the island.
For breathtaking coastal views, hop aboard the Needles Breezer. This open-top bus takes you on an unforgettable ride, climbing steeply from Alum Bay up to the Needles Battery, where the sweeping sea views are truly mesmerizing. The route also links Yarmouth, Freshwater Bay, Dimbola, Farringford, and Fort Victoria Country Park, passing through vast stretches of the Island’s National Landscape.
Journey through the rural heart of West Wight on Route 12, travelling from Newport to Alum Bay. Along the way, you’ll pass through Carisbrooke, Shorwell, Brighstone, and Mottistone—quaint villages dotted with thatched cottages, cosy pubs, and historic landmarks. This route provides access to heritage gems like Carisbrooke Castle, Mottistone Manor, and Dimbola Museum. Fancy some beach time? For an epic island-wide journey, the Island Coaster is a must. This seasonal summer service connects Ryde, Sandown, and Shanklin with the western side of the island via Ventnor, Blackgang, and Alum Bay. One of the highlights? Travelling along the Military Road, one of the UK’s most scenic coastal routes, where the views from the top deck are unbeatable. In Yarmouth, you can transfer to the Needles Breezer for even more coastal exploration.
If you’re looking for a seaside escape, Route 8 is the way to go. Running between Newport and Ryde, this route takes you through the tranquil eastern villages of Seaview, St Helens, and Bembridge. Expect sandy beaches, charming harbours, and plenty of marine life - you might even spot a seal! Foodies will love the fresh seafood on offer, with plenty of great restaurants boasting stunning ocean views. This route also passes through Arreton Valley, home to Amazon World, Arreton Barns, and Robin Hill Adventure Park.
Route 3 follows the island’s eastern coast, travelling from Ryde to Newport via the Bay Area of Sandown, Shanklin, and Ventnor. Along the way, you can visit Dinosaur Isle and The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, plus soak in the coastal beauty of Culver Downs. As the route winds inland, it passes the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary before reaching the charming village of Godshill—the perfect place for a cream tea and a stroll through its famous model village.
For an off-the-beaten-path adventure, Route 6 takes you from Newport to Ventnor, passing through the villages of Chillerton, Gatcombe, Chale, Niton, and Whitwell. Along the way, you’ll find Blackgang Chine, the island’s famous land of imagination and adventure. Don’t miss the annual scarecrow festival in Chillerton, or take a scenic walk from Ventnor to Steephill Cove, one of the island’s best-kept secrets.
For a countryside escape, the Downs Breezer offers a circular route through rolling hills and scenic downs, with panoramic views over the English Channel and beyond. This route links Ryde Town, Wootton Station, Robin Hill, Sandown Seafront, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, Dinosaur Isle, and Bembridge, making it an excellent way to explore the Island’s natural beauty and attractions.
